Bangladesh Partnership

A Charity dedicated to helping Bangladeshi and Bengali-speaking people particularly in matters of education, information and opportunity.

200 million people speak Bengali in Bangladesh, the state of West Bengali in India, and scattered in many cities around the world.  A talented and out-going people, yet most have suffered from the devastations of poverty, lack of health care and very limited educational opportunities.

In Bangladesh

We focus on providing educational opportunities, adult literacy, and vocational training.  We are assisting in up-grading the facilities of a primary school in a village in Sylhet.  We provide English books for an innovative mobile library scheme in Sylhet town.  We support a school for slum children in Dhaka.

Adult Literacy

Bangladesh has a 30% literacy rate.  In Bhoirob area, we have helped this local family set up an adult literacy project.  Each year 180 adults in village areas will learn to read and write

We are enabling a number of young men to further their education while supporting their families.  They do this by street-selling good books on general knowledge, health and spiritual values.

Bangladesh4

We sponsor vocational training schemes: tailoring, electrical, computing and handicraft marketing.  We initiate and assist in translation and publishing projects.

In the UK

Many children from Bangladeshi homes do not begin to speak English until nursery school level and so start their education at a considerable disadvantage.  Others have arrived in the UK part way through their education.  Hence we operate a scheme to place native English speaking volunteers in the homes of Bangladeshi children to provide practical help with English.  Not only do the children benefit but also bonds of friendships are built across diverse communities.

Assistance is also given to Bangladeshi families with translation, form-filling, housing, citizenship and many other practical matters.
